An aromatic, slow-roasted, green Japanese tea powder with rich roasted and caramel notes. The roasting process caramelizes the tea leaves, resulting in a subtle sweetness. Naturally low in caffeine yet rich in antioxidants, it’s the perfect lower-caffeine alternative to matcha. Delicious in hot or iced lattes, and a unique addition to baking.
Hojicha is a type of Japanese green tea, that has been roasted. The roasting process removes all bitterness, creating a roasted/ caramel taste.
*Roasted green tea, Hōjicha (Japan). *Certified Organic.
How to make hojicha:
- Tea Quantity: 1 - 2tsp per cup
- Temperature:100°c
- Prepare: Whisk until frothy
- Caffeine:Low
Step 1: Add 2 heaped spatulas of hojicha green tea powder to a bowl.
Step 2: Fill your kettle with fresh water and boil to 80°C.
Step 3: Pour a small amount of boiled water into the bowl (around 50ml).
Step 4: Using your matcha whisk, begin whisking in a "W" or "M" motion, until frothy.
Step 5: (Iced) Fill your glass with ice and oatmilk (3/4 full) then add a teaspoon of syrup and stir (optional, pairs well with maple). Pour the whisked hojicha over the top for an ombre effect.
Step 5: (Hot) Pour the whisked hojicha into a mug and stir in your syrup of choice into the hojicha tea base. Then heat the milk (warm but not boiling) and froth using a milk frother. Then pour the steamed milk slowly onto the hojicha.
Try adding hojicha to smoothies, milkshakes and desserts.
